UK Day 3-4 The Village near Urquhart Castle

2011-7-1 Friday

Following the guidance of GPS, we soon came to Urquhart Castle. After considering the entrance fee and the value it may offer, we decided not to go into the castle. We just wanted to take a photo from the distance as a souvenir. However, the castle was covered by a forest. The good thing was that we could use camera’s telescopic lens to take a picture.

Later, we found a spot which part of castle could be seen and asked a person to take pictures for us. Originally, I thought he was a tourist from the Middle East. After some chat, I realized that he was from Pakistan. He came to Scotland for study and settled down in nineteen years ago. Meanwhile, another old man joined our conversation with the language we don’t understand. He helped us translate it. Then, we knew he is asking if we are from Japan.

During the chat with the new friend, John suddenly said that he want go to toilet. We quickly approached to ticket office to inquire the location of toilet. A gentleman of ticket center very politely told us that our toilets are available only for guests with tickets. When we were thinking about whether to spend eight pounds for John to use the toilet, he politely asked us which direction we want to go. When we told him we want to return to Inverness city. He told us that we can go to a nearby visitor center two miles away. There are free toilets.

We asked John to wait and hastily drove to the visitor center. After John used the toilet, we felt an sense of relief. We leisurely strolled around the visitor center. I took a map to know where we are. John happily shoot postcards and souvenirs by a camera.

When he found a postcard with the Ness monster statue, John was very excited to tell me:

“Dad! You see! Ness monsters really exist! “

“You know? Ness monsters are the evolution of dinosaurs!

“I want to take pictures back to my classmates and show them that there are dinosaurs alive in the world until now.”

When John finished photo-shooting, we walked out of the visitor center. It is located in a small village and surrounded by mountains full of greenery. There are a few houses and several restaurants in the village. The interesting part is that there is a floral model of Urquhart Castle.

It was almost lunch time after we took some photographs around the village. We found a restaurant and ordered some pizza, vegetable soup, and Coke for lunch. We sat on the outside chairs under the parasol and enjoyed the sunshine and leisure time.

When we were enjoying the food, we heard the sound of Scottish bagpipes. Followed the sound, we found a young man standing at the green field in front of floral Castle and playing the Scottish bagpipes. It let us have the opportunity to experience the lunch with Scottish style.

After lunch, we took a walk along the road of the village. It gave us a very good impression. We wondered why the village can be so clean, neat, spacious and full of greenery. We wished we could have the opportunity to live in such an environment.

After taking some photographs in the rural leisure village, we decided to move to Urquhart Castle again. The reason was that we wanted to enjoy the scenery along Loch Ness.

After photo-shooting along Loch Ness, we have completed today itinerary. It just pass three o’clock in the afternoon, we enjoy today’s trip a lot. We decide to return to the hotel for rest and to purchase some fruits and bread in the supermarkets of Inverness city.
