UK Day 6 The Laundry Day and Magnificent Glencoe

2011-7-4 Monday

Originally, we planned to find time doing laundry in the restroom of B & B. However, the B& B had lots of policies to follow and the restroom was so tiny.  Today became the laundry day.

It was interesting to know there was only one laundry store in the Fort William even though I thought it was a big town this time. After breakfast and getting the address of laundry store from the B& B owner, we followed the instruction of GPS and tried to find the laundry store. After about 20 minutes, when GPS showed that we already reached our destination, we couldn’t find the store. We drove around and reach a dead lane. We got off and asked a resident. The man was so nice and said: “follow my car, I will bring you there”

When we reached the laundry store, it was a small store with only four laundry machines inside. We needed to wait and take turns to use the laundry machine. John was exciting for the first time doing laundry outside. Meanwhile, we also saw one old couple who moved RV(Recreational Vehicle) here to wash their quilts and clothes.
After putting all the clothes inside, we walked around to experience the living environment here. It was a spacious area and great environment as you can see green mountains, blue sea and sailboats from time to time.

After laundry, we started today’s itinerary. It was a wonderful sunshine day. We quickly approached Glencoe as it was only 14 miles south of Fort William.

When we reached the scenic glens, we were impressed by the magnificent scenery.

When we found a beautiful view and plan to pull over the car, we soon found a parking area.

We felt grateful for their design for a parking area here. It helped us easily to park our car and enjoyed this beautiful scene.

We climbed up to the rugged hills of the glen, took some pictures and overlooked the fantastic scenery.

It was about lunch time. We thought it was a wonderful place for lunch snack. We enjoyed the food and scenery here. We expected more magnificent scenery will come to our eyes for rest of day.

It was out of our expectation that no more glens or magnificent view available. We finally realized B& B owner’s response when she heard that we planned to visit Glencoe. When we told her that we would visit Glencoe today, she just pointed the mountains not far away from B& B and said that is Glencoe without future suggestions for us.

Only little scenery along the way aroused our interests. We pulled over one scenery we liked. One interesting thing was that we heard weird sound of the bagpipe. We didn’t know if it was because the player was tuning up or not.

Since it was not easy to find more scenery along the way arousing our interest and we knew we need to take A82 to Lake District tomorrow. We decided to go back to Fort William by taking A85 and A828 to see if there was more beautiful scenery

Two interesting things we encountered on the way back to Fort William. One was that we stopped at the red traffic light of one-way bridge to wait cars of other directions passed by. The other was that we saw lakeside scenery we liked.

Tomorrow we will leave Scotland and go to England. We thank God for giving us such five wonderful shining days!

During these five days, one thing come to my mind is that it is great to have long daytime as a tourist. We can take time to travel a lot.  However, I don't know what kind of feelings for the people who live here.
